This upcycled pop up shop is a super sweet idea. It was built for a chocolate and beer company who needed a mobile shop. Using reclaimed wood, salvaged metal and an old tricycle, a mobile pop up shop was created. This upcycled pop up shop can be configured 4 ways for different functions and requirements. Is upcycling the future of brick-and-mortar retail shops? We think it could be.

Upcycled Pop Up Shop

This upcycled pop up shop was created for Mr The Artist, a brand that allows customers to print their own photos onto Belgian beer bottles and chocolates. Because of this, they needed to be able to take their shop to different venues including rooftop parties and shopping malls. They brought on Avoid Obvious Architects to help them created this upcycled pop up solution.

Upcycled Pop Up Shop

The Avoid Obvious Architects design process is typically about finding a design solution to fit into their client’s business cycle and material cycle. Many brands build one time installations and destroy them after the event. That one-off mentality is what AO Architects try to avoid. They look at their client’s business, and find sustainable methods and materials to fit their needs. AO Architects believe that the final design should grow with their clients’ business needs, not become obsolete.

This upcycled pop up shop has some awesome functionality – it can be configured 4 different ways:

  1. Movable Display with canopy closed on the back of a tricycle
  2. Movable Display without the tricycle
  3. Canopy open as a shop
  4. Curtain down as a photo booth

It also has 6 super cool elements including a refrigerator to keep the beer and chocolate at their ideal temperature. We think that the touch screen display and photo booth for customization are pretty slick!

This upcycled pop up shop is made from 85% upcycled materials. The vintage tricycle was found through Taobao, an eBay-like website in China. The reclaimed wood were found through local contractors. AO Architects tell us that quite a few local wood shops now stock reclaimed wood, as it is in demand for vintage design.
