This gorgeous pallet hope chest is more than just a furniture piece, it’s a success story. We love hearing about upcyclers that have turned their passions into businesses! Candice and Mike Jenness starting making these stunning reclaimed wood hope chests as a way to bridge the financial gap from their day jobs. When their Etsy shop, Looney Bin Trading Company, reached over 300 sales, they were able to make the switch to working full time for themselves.

Candice and Mike started Looney Bin Trading Company out of their garage in June 2012. They had 4 children, including a daughter, Susan Faith with a serious lifelong medical condition called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). They needed extra money to pay for their family’s finances and medical bills. They started their Etsy shop with just 3 items, including a large pallet hope chest modelled after one Mike had made in 1976.

Candice and Mike like to do their part by reusing and repurposing materials that are being thrown away. At Looney Bin Trading Co they specialize in creating beautiful upcycled furniture from pallet wood. They love the gorgeous character of this eco friendly material.

Due to the success of their Etsy shop, Looney Bin Trading Company is now a 2200 sq ft shop in Downtown Buford, Georgia. This real-life Mom and Pop Shop offers a quality, handcrafted alternative to mass produced furniture.

The outside of these magnificent pallet hope chests are stained and sealed. The inside of the chests are clear coated to seal in the natural beauty of the reclaimed wood. Candice and Mike are also happy to work with customers to customize orders. They believe that the future is unknown, but with great customers, hard work, hope, faith and their dreams they can continue to grow their shop. We wish them all the best!
